Center Begins Work on TCRP F-28: Practitioner’s Guide to Bus Operator Workforce Management

The proposal submitted by the Eno Center for Transportation with the Center as a subcontractor has been selected for TCRP F-28: Practitioner’s Guide to Bus Operator Workforce Management.

The research plan for the 2-year project consists of a literature review, stakeholder interviews, an industry survey, several in-depth case studies, and will conclude with a final report. The final report is meant to serve as a guide to bus operator workforce management from pre-employment through retirement presenting best and innovative practices that enhance and sustain public transit as well as support bus operators. The guide will address operator workforce needs assessment methods, recruitment, selection and onboarding, training and mentoring, compensation, working conditions, and retention.

The Center will rely heavily on its industry partners for the stakeholder interviews and distribution of the survey.
