Center Celebrates Cardozo Graduation

On Friday, August 2, 2019, the Transportation Learning Center was pleased to sponsor and participate in the first Infrastructure Careers Gateway Summer Program with the TransSTEM Academy at Cardozo Education Campus in Washington, DC.  The program was developed the organization Introducing Youth to American Infrastructure+

(IYAI+) which was founded by Dr. Beverly Scott. Along with APTA as the platinum sponsor, the summer program’s sponsors include IAMAW, Parker Infrastructure, WMATA, Howard University, AMTRAK, Harvard University School of Law and others. Seventeen rising high school juniors and seniors participated in the intensive six-week program that provided experiences in careers in the transportation industry in an educational environment where students are immerged in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Center guests to this event were Hiram Nix, ATU Local 689, WMATA, former co-chair of the national Elevator-Escalator Training Consortium and Charles Jenkins, Director of TWU Local 100 - NYCT Training and Upgrading Fund.
