Posted November 2019

On October 20-22, the Center’s Senior Director for Workforce Education, Pat Greenfield, participated as an invited speaker at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Symposium, “Routes to Opportunity:  Connecting Equity and Transportation.”  Center Board member Stephanie Wiggins, Chief Executive Officer of Metrolink, chaired the panel, titled “Growing the Workforce to Fuel the Transportation System.”  Pat’s presentation on “A Model for Engaging and Preparing Future Front-line Staff: Lessons Learned from Training Partnerships in Public Transit” described the Center’s partnership work in developing and implementing the Transit Core Competencies Curriculum, with a primary focus on career pathway opportunities in transportation.  Joseph Kane from the Brookings Institution reviewed relevant workforce data, and Maria Meleandez from LA Metro discussed LA Metro’s decision to develop a transportation high school. TLC Board member Wiggins then moderated a discussion on workforce development and equity in transportation among the panelists and the 175 attendees.
