As part of the Transportation Learning Center’s ongoing partnership with the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE) , the Center has contributed materials from its Transit Core Competencies Curriculum (TC3) to support CWE’s work with youth. Through its New York Alliance for Transport & Logistics Advancement Services (NY ATLAS) - a partnership between New York City’s Department of Education, the labor movement, employers, the City University of New York, youth service groups, and foundations - CWE is helping to create long-term and permanent career pathways into the workforce for young people ages 18-24 from the South Bronx.

The Center has been working with CWE on a number of workforce development projects, including the delivery of our TC3 Industry Overview module in-person to a group of South Bronx youth last Spring, working with a team of subject matter experts led by Charles Jenkins, Acting Director of the Transport Workers Local 100-New York City Transit Authority Union Training and Upgrading Fund. (See a summary of that program here: https://conta.cc/2Yud7Nl ) In its commitment to continue their work with young people throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, CWE asked the Center to convert selected TC3 materials for fully online delivery through the NY ATLAS portal. Given the immediate need, within two weeks the Center designed and adapted TC3 materials focused on career opportunities, and new and green technologies. The materials are now accessible to the NY ATLAS target audience.
