Pierce Transit Technicians Receive Virtual Mentor Training

Posted October 2020

The Center has begun a series of virtual mentor training sessions with Pierce Transit and Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 758. Stuart Bass, Principal of Progress Worx, is leading the sessions to prepare the mentors for facilitating the on-the-job-training (OJT) component of the Pierce Transit/ATU bus maintenance apprenticeship program. The class explores learning styles and communication to enhance the mentor/apprentice relationship. The group discussed how to improve the program and expressed great commitment to transfer their knowledge to apprentices.

The mentor training complements registered apprenticeship and the mentoring/OJT that is critical to its success. The virtual training is broken up into three two-hour sessions held over video conference. Although this is the first time the Center has offered mentor training virtually, the feedback received has been positive.
