Transit Elevator/Escalator Courseware Development Team Focuses on ID Skills for “Master Techs”

Center Awarded TCRP Project: National Training & Certification for Vehicle Maintenance Instructors

The Transportation Learning Center has been awarded TCRP Project F-19, A National Training and Certification Program for Transit Vehicle Maintenance Instructors, with work to begin in late January 2013. This project will develop a detailed plan for curriculum and written and hands-on certification, along with a business plan for potential implementation in a vehicle maintenance instructor training and certification program.

Center Among Groups to Receive FTA Transit Workforce Development Funds

On January 11, 2013 FTA announced the recipients of $7 million in grants for transit workforce development programs.  The Center received funding for both its submitted proposals and joins the list of 17 organizations in 12 states.  The Center will work specifically on creating a signals training consortium, modeled on the successful work of the transit elevator/escalator training consortium, as well as creating career pathways for young people to enter transit careers and apprenticeship models for career ladder advancement for frontline transit technicians.
