Career Pathways/Career Ladders Round Table Conference - September 17, 2014 in Silver Spring Maryland
Posted September 2014
The Transportation Learning Center’s planning for the September 17 Career Pathways/Career Ladders Roundtable Conference is entering its final stages, and the meeting is almost filled to capacity. Instead of the usual conference format of panel presentations and questions to the panel, the Roundtable Conference will bring together no more than 30 representatives from transit agencies, unions, non-profits and government to engage in a full day of thoughtful and challenging interactive discussion. Instead of the usual conference format of panel presentations and questions for the panel, each session will begin with a short series of “kick-off” comments designed to spur ongoing dialogue among all participants, as we identify effective practices, opportunities and challenges in building, strengthening and advancing Career Pathways and Ladders in a collaborative stakeholder environment.
Currently confirmed participants include: transit agency and union representatives from Boston, Cleveland, Des Moines, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Utah; federal government agency representatives from the Departments of Transportation, Education and Labor; community colleges and education organizations from Denver, New York and West Virginia; and national organizations, including the American Public Transportation Association, American Federation of Teachers, Economic Policy Institute, Jobs for the Future, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and Wider Opportunities for Women.
Session discussion topics for the day are:
• Creating and Building on Career Ladders and Pathways in Transit: An Examination of Need, Opportunities and Frameworks
• Outreach and Engagement: Effective Practices and Stakeholder Buy-In
• Mentoring for Pathways and Ladders
• The Critical Role of Apprenticeship and Rigorous Career Ladder Training
• Education Programs as Stakeholders in the Pathways and Ladders System
• Stakeholder Engagement: Opportunities and Challenges
The conference takes place in Silver Spring, Maryland. There are just one or two spaces left for interested participants. You may contact Pat Greenfield at pgreenfield@transportcenter.org if you are interested in attending.
