Rail Car Consortium Participates in Rerail Training at WMATA

Posted May 2021

On Thursday, April 29, TLC Instructional Designer Kristen Ribaudo, visited WMATA’s Greenbelt rail yard. Kristen met with Rail Car Subject Matter Expert (SME) Bob Mietlicki to attend WMATA’s rerail training exercise and gather content for the National Rail Car Training Consortium’s newest course: Introduction and Overview to Rerail Operations. Over 25 WMATA electricians and mechanics attended the Rerail training exercise instructed by WMATA instructor John Tsampos and Rail Car SME Roland Lamar. Instructors modeled how to connect hoses and position and operate lifting jacks just as it would happen in the event of a derailment. Participants were then given the opportunity to practice their new skills. WMATA holds monthly rerail training exercises to keep their skills sharp!

Video captured during the site visit will help the Consortium develop an eLearning module on Rerailing and will supplement classroom and on-the-job learning materials. We appreciate WMATA welcoming the Center’s participation in the training and look forward to continuing our great work together!
