The main focus of this work was on creating mentor checklists that can be utilized not only as classroom and hands-on learning activities but also adapted to be used for hands-on assessments. To date, more than 80 checklists have been added to the library. Other resources include a mentoring guidebook, instructional videos, editable flow charts and self-paced online learning activities. Earlier this month, the most recent package of mentor checklists was uploaded to Transit Training Network . Finished checklists now cover the following topics: Track Circuits Switches Signaling Systems Highway Grade Crossings Print Reading Troubleshooting This year, these troubleshooting activities are being built into interactive, computer-based scenarios where learners can navigate real world situations in a safe environment while saving locations money on expensive mock-ups or simulators. From an adult learning perspective, being able to closely pair new information with application (instead of waiting for the problem to arise in the field) increases understanding and retention exponentially. A sneak peek of this 2021 work is available here (scroll to the bottom). The Center appreciates the contribution and diligent work from the signals subject matter experts to produce these materials.
